It's an easy way to share my opinions or break news to my followers, but it sure doesn't replace my blogs. Or, again, those trusty email lists, the real lifeblood of any internet marketing business.

Until now, my favorite use of Twitter has been to make new friends.

I’m going to be honest here: I’m not the world’s biggest Twitter fan. Sure, it’s a nice way to supplement my email lists, but it’s not a replacement for them. It’s an easy way to share my opinions or break news to my followers, but it sure doesn’t replace my blogs. Or, again, those trusty email lists, the real lifeblood of any internet marketing business.

Until now, my favorite use of Twitter has been to make new friends. It may seem unlikely, but I’ve met quite a few people through Twitter, including some fellow internet marketers and business owners. Those casual Twitter exchanges have turned into both friendships and lucrative joint venture partnerships.

But where I’m really excited about Twitter is the ability to tie all of my various blogs and other sites together.

For example, I have sales blogs, a marketing blog, an internet marketing blog, a political blog, and as I write this, I’m creating a personal blog to spout random thoughts and musings about food, hobbies, and other things that don’t fit any of my business blogs.

One may ask why I don’t just have one huge blog site, and it comes down to the fact that it would create too much incongruence. I don’t want someone coming to this blog, for instance, and then reading one of my political rantings and getting into an argument with me. It just doesn’t work.

Twitter, on the other hand, does.

Naturally, I always tweet to announce a new blog post (as I’m about to do with this one as soon as I finish writing it). Therein lies the magic of Twitter: It’s a hub for all of my various blogs, business sites, and even my personal life.

Instead of one giant, unwieldy hub site, I simply use Twitter as my hub to tie everything together.

Well, now that friends of mine are on Twitter, I’ve been “tweeting” and posting and following every day. I’ve noticed that when someone with a lot of followers starts following me, a bunch of their followers start following me too.

And on and on the cycle goes … Web 2.0 at work!
